Our History
The Ethnic Communities' Council of NSW was established in 1975 at Sydney Town Hall by a mass rally of all ethnic communities in the presence of two former Prime Ministers, Hon. Gough Whitlam and Rt Hon. Malcolm Fraser.
The ECC in NSW was the first such organisation in Australia and went on to assist in the establishment of ECCs in other States and also the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia.
Contribution
The ECC has made a significant contribution to the establishment of organisations such as the Ethnic Affairs Commission of NSW (now Community Relations Commission of NSW), the Federation of Community Languages Schools, the Association of Translators and Interpreters, SBS Television and Multicultural Community Radio.
Recording our History
The ECC is beginning the process of sorting and processing archived pictures, publications, and internal documents of the last 35 years with a view towards publishing a comprehensive history of our operations.
