From all over the world towards sustainability
17/09/2013
It does not matter if you are originally from Vietnam, Iraq, Spain, Sudan, and China or have been all your life in Australia to find something interesting about sustainable living. It does not matter if you have no idea at all about “what does even sustainability mean” because you will definitely learn about it in a simple yet rich and effective way.
This is how students from different parts of the world gather in MTC rooms to learn, discuss, brainstorm and do activities in the environmental workshops that were delivered by bilingual educators from the Sustainable Living project (SLP).

The Sustainable Living Project with MTC at Liverpool organised a series of environmental workshops to be delivered in English, Arabic and Vietnamese. The series includes topics such as saving power, waste minimising and recycling, biodiversity and also Love Food Hate Waste workshops which will be finished by celebrative, diverse and creative leftover dishes. And this is not all, the groups will also have the opportunity to enjoy their time again by joining a tour that is organised by Liverpool Council and will again celebrate their learning achievements as well as celebrating the rich biodiversity of the Australian nature.
The groups have enjoyed learning about saving power and the environment through a very interactive and social atmosphere where they shared stories and experiences. A surge of excitement was witnessed each time they do an activity, brainstorming how to save energy and how to overcome barriers. They liked working in teams and being competitive to each other sometimes even in a funny way when gentlemen try to convince the ladies that long showers are not necessary to keep their hair beautiful!
“I like the Save Power workshops and I learnt many things of it” said Abdulrahim, “I wish my children could learn this useful information too at school because it will assist us as a family to achieve a big change”.
The groups are looking forward to the following weeks with various, interesting and important topics coming up. I am looking forward to the workshops as well and enjoy more of the different stories and ideas that should be shared, and to enjoy the wonderful multicultural leftover recipes which we promise to publish them in the SLP website especially for you to try!
