ECC wins Green Globe Award

20/10/2009

ECC was awarded the overall 2009 Premier's Sustainability Award for best project at the 10th Green Globe Awards.

The ECC was recognised for their achievements when they received the Community Sustainability Award; presented by the Hon. Carmel Tebbutt, then Minister for Climate Change and the Environment at a ceremony in July 2009.

"The Green Globe Awards honour organisations that put sustainability and environmental management at the forefront of their operations," Ms Tebbutt said.

The Ethnic Communities Council of NSW has been educating migrant communities throughout the State on sustainability and environmental issues for the past 12 years. The ECC's programs rely on the effective and meaningful community engagement processes conducted by the Bilingual Environmental Educator team. They are responsible for the support and participation in ethnic businesses (including waterless woks for Asian Restaurants and energy efficiency for Asian Dry Cleaners), community networks, public recognition and celebration achievements, utilisation of the community media and strong communication of environmental messages.
