"Let all of us to love and protect earth and build beautiful country"

From August to November, our Mandarin Educator Grace Lu ran a series of workshops with a group from the Maroubra Chinese Church.  Participants increased the sustainable living awareness through sharing experiences, learning from each other and from Grace.  Mr. Zhang, representative of the group, wrote about their experiences.

Mr. Zhang:
"We are very pleased to have this opportunity to have access to such a practical, useful and ‘good to our earth’ environmental workshops series.  After every workshop, we have had good discussion amongst us, and we decided we try to put what we have learnt to use in our daily lifes.

We started with three workshops about how to save energy and save money on our energy bills.  We learned a lot and have implemented lots of things we have learned in our homes such as switching off the lights when not in use, turning off standby for all home devices, take shorter showers and using the fan instead of air-conditioner.

We enjoyed learning about natural cleaning and learnt how to make our own non toxin cleaning products at home including laundry powder, air freshener, multi -purpose cleaner and even natural ways to kill cockroaches and ants, etc.  We got a lot of useful and easy recipes to try and use.  This was our favorite workshop and we are now all making it at home.

We also learnt that chemical and toxin products need to be taken disposed at a special depot run by the Council.

This workshops is a great starting point, we will continue to learn more natural way living and share the knowledge with family, friends and church members.

We think Australia need a Sustainable Living Movement in whole country, put such knowledge from young age and become a normal living habit.  Let all of us to love and protect earth and build a beautiful country. "
