Our Vietnamese SLP bilingual educator Minh is delivering a series of workshops at MTC Australia. Read here more about his experiences so far!
A few weeks ago, I started delivering a series of workshops in Vietnamese language about Save Power, Love Food Hate Waste, and other topics at MTC Australia in Liverpool. I was very excited to meet everyone and start our journey towards a more sustainable lifestyle together.
Together with our Arabic bilingual educator Yasmin, who is also delivering workshops, I came to MTC Australia on Aug. 7th 2013. I felt lucky to receive warm welcome and support from Ms. Jacqueline Druart, and other MTC Australia staff at Liverpool.
Straight away, in the first Save Power workshop, I received a lot of questions from the participants about the rise of electricity prices, smart meters, off-peak and peak time etc…. After I outlined and explained to them about the three Save Power workshops we discussed mutual expectations about the workshops. The participants were very enthusiastic and keen to learn more.
We talked about our experience about the energy use when we were in Vietnam, how our uses of electricity impact on the environment, and contribute to the climate changes. When I ran through the key parts of the example energy bill, again a lot of questions and stories related personal experiences were raised. However the most exciting part of the workshop came when I divided the room into different spaces within the home and let the participants brainstorm and talk about the ways to save energy in summer and winter. Great ideas were raised and shared with each other, and it was very valuable for each participant.
At the end of the third workshop, after we finished the last survey and calculate how much we saved in terms of money and eco points by changing our habits. We all agreed that in the past our uses of energy has caused a big issue to our environment and everyone should try his/her best to reduce it. Everyone thanked MTC Australia and ECC for their support to provide us the opportunity to sit together to discuss such an important issue in our nowadays society.
