Save Power project stories – now online!

17/09/2013

Funded by the Office of Environment and Heritage Save Power program, we have successfully developed and delivered Save Power workshop series in multiple community languages. Listen and read the stories of participants here that they have generously shared with us here, and be inspired!

This SLP worked with participants over a longer period of time through a series of workshops to develop the capacity to overcome barriers and support each other in making changes. The interactive workshops are characterised by facilitated discussions, sharing of experiences and knowledge and peer-to-peer learning opportunities. Other newly developed Save Power programs include a pilot series for newly arrived migrants in Lakemba, staff-training on energy efficiency for Migrant Resource Centre staff, and models on how to integrate our workshops best with existing settlement programs for specific groups.

“So far, the program has been received enthusiastically by the participants” says Fieke Geerts, co-ordinator of the program. “Some participants are interested in participating in a follow-up program to become an energy efficiency champion within their own community”.

Most programs are run in partnership with Local councils and we try to complement existing programs or new initiatives as much as possible.

The SLP will continue to deliver the Save Power workshop series this financial year in English and community language. Please contact Fieke Geerts ([email protected])  for more information or if you are interested in a workshop series for your community
