Veggies with a Latin touch

Hi there my name is Dewi and I am from the north of Mexico. I meet Pilar a couple of years ago when I came to Sydney from Queensland. She has introduced me to all these courses like composting and no-dig gardening, which I truly enjoy and take into practice. Now I am part of the Latin garden.
The Latin garden is a group of Spanish speakers (including anyone who LOVES our food and culture). We get to grow our veggies like chillies, tomatoes, beans and spices, which we usually use for our traditional food. We not only grow our own crops but we also share ideas, recipes and we learn from each other. This is a tiny connection to our culture and a good opportunity to be in contact with our community.
After growing our veggies, we can enjoy what we grew with lots of satisfaction. For example, once we had some spinach growing and I was the lucky winner to take them home. I wanted to taste the freshness and crunchiness of these veggies so I decided to just steam them for about 2-4 minutes. I served them on a plate and just added a bit of soy sauce, olive oil and a bit of chilly flakes.
It was delicious!
We still get together at Addison Rd community centre once a month as a group. We also take turns for watering the plants, so every single weekend someone is in charge of this activity. Pilar is always coming up with great ideas for us to get involved. And I am very glad to be part of this Latin garden community, because we get to see that our veggies are growing happily, green and very healthy.
