An Expression of Support and Solidarity
Yesterday, the Chair of the Ethnic Communities Council of NSW, Peter Doukas OAM, and its CEO, Mary Karras, coordinated a meeting of its NSW Regional Affiliate member organisations with the CEO of the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra, Mr Chris Lacey, the CEO of the Multicultural Council of Wagga Wagga, Ms Belinda Crain, and the GM of Hunter Multicultural Communities, Dr Fadi Baghdadi, to express solidarity in our support of the Australian Jewish community in this time of distress and profound hurt.
We declare our support to the Australian Jewish community as a member of our vibrant multicultural society, as they come to terms with this vile act of hatred inflicted on Sunday at Bondi Beach during the holy Chanukah festival of light.
As multicultural peak organisations we stand for pluralism and the involvement of all communities in the healing process over the days, months, and years ahead.
We offer our ongoing support for the rebuilding of trust and safety and the eradication of anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred that threaten our peace and harmony.
