Coercive control is a web of abuse
Intimate partner relationships include people who are casually dating, in a serious relationship, or any other type of intimate relationship in between.
Everyone deserves to be respected and to feel safe in intimate relationships.
Coercive control is when someone repeatedly hurts, scares, or isolates another person to control them. Itโs abuse and it can cause serious harm.
Some abusive behaviours can seem minor on their own, but together they form a
pattern of abuse. It can feel like being caught in a web. Coercive control is now a criminal offence in NSW when a person uses abusive behaviours towards a current or former intimate partner with the intention to coerce or control them. Find out more about the new laws.
No one deserves abuse. For support, call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 13 14 50 and ask them to contact 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732.
