ECCNSW Teams Up with Deaf Australia and SBS for New Auslan Video Podcast Series on Disability

In an exciting new collaboration, ECCNSW has joined forces with Deaf Australia to produce an innovative video podcast series for Speak My Language (Disability). The series, currently in post-production, is set to feature five insightful episodes that highlight the lived experiences of culturally diverse Auslan users within the Deaf community.

Hosted by Deaf Australia’s interim CEO Shirley Liu, the video series is designed to shine a spotlight on how Deaf individuals from various cultural backgrounds thrive in their communities. Through engaging interviews, Liu speaks with five unique individuals who use Auslan (Australian Sign Language) as their primary means of communication, exploring their stories of resilience, identity, and belonging.

The Speak My Language podcast series is part of an initiative funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services. The goal of the series is to provide a platform for the Deaf community, with a particular focus on disability inclusion, while amplifying the voices of culturally diverse Auslan users. This new series builds on the success of the Speak My Language initiative, which aims to promote greater understanding and support for people with disability across multicultural communities.

As the series is now in post-production, the five episodes are set to be made available as a web-series in early 2025. This collaboration between ECCNSW, Deaf Australia, and SBS, marks a significant step forward in ensuring that Deaf Australians have access to content that reflects their diverse experiences and fosters a more inclusive society.

Stay tuned for the launch of this exciting new series, which promises to inspire, inform, and empower viewers with powerful stories from the Deaf community.
