New Online Hub to Help Migrants and Refugees Settle Into Life in NSW

Multicultural NSW has launched the Settlement Hub, a new website designed to make life easier for people who are settling into New South Wales for the first time. The platform brings together information, services and real stories in one place, aiming to take some of the stress out of navigating a new country.

What the Settlement Hub Offers

The site is organised around the practical questions new arrivals face every day, with dedicated sections covering:

  • Australian society โ€” how government, daily life, safety and community participation work
  • Community support โ€” programs for families, children, seniors and diverse communities
  • Education and training โ€” from early childhood and school through to university, TAFE and English classes
  • Employment โ€” job searching, training and workplace rights
  • Health and wellbeing โ€” Medicare, doctors, hospitals and specialised refugee healthcare
  • Housing โ€” renting, buying, and urgent accommodation support
  • Language support โ€” interpreters, translation services and English programs
  • Law and justice โ€” the legal system and where to find legal support
  • Money and finance โ€” banking, government payments and financial assistance
  • Transport โ€” using public transport and driving safely in NSW

A Find Services directory lets users locate local support organisations in Albury, Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle, Sydney, Wagga Wagga and Wollongong, including services specifically for refugees and people seeking asylum.

Real Stories From People Who’ve Been There

Beyond factual resources, the Hub features video testimonials from people who have gone through the settlement journey themselves โ€” covering everything from getting a driver’s licence to buying a first home and finding a job. The stories are designed to reassure new arrivals that others have faced the same challenges and found their footing.

Accessible in Multiple Languages

Recognising that settling in a new country often means navigating an unfamiliar language, the Settlement Hub is being rolled out with translated content, starting with Arabic alongside English, and explainer videos available in multiple community languages via a dedicated YouTube playlist.

A Guided Starting Point

For people who aren’t sure where to begin, the site includes a “Steps to Settle in NSW” section that walks through the settlement journey in order, plus an “Urgent Help” link for anyone who needs immediate support.

The Settlement Hub reflects a broader push by Multicultural NSW to make settlement information easier to find and act on โ€” replacing scattered resources with a single, purpose-built starting point for new arrivals across the state.
