Love Food, Hate Waste
Love Food Hate Waste is a program that helps households, communities and businesses stop wasting food and start protecting the environment.
ECCNSW delivered Love Food Hate Waste workshops, activities and in-language resources to educate culturally and linguistically diverse communities who were contributing to food waste.
ECCNSW created culturally appropriate recipe books, fact sheets and seasonal guides in 6 languages, as well as short videos in-language to better educate viewers on sustainable cooking practices.
The Impact
My slogan after this course is โdonโt buy too much!โ I like shopping and my habit is to buy more of something when it is cheap. After doing this course I realised that when I buy more of something I cannot consume it all and end up wasting it.
Vietnamese participant
Research conducted by NSW EPA had revealed that the CALD community were more likely to incorrectly store food, misunderstand food labels, such as โbest beforeโ labels, and viewed food spoilage as unavoidable.
ECCNSWโs Love Food Hate Waste program successfully engaged CALD community groups through face-to-face interactive cooking workshops, purpose-made in-language resources and online videos. Through these initiatives, participants were better educated on how to save money and the environment by minimising food waste.
