Your Experience with AI Could Help Shape the Future of Public Health Practice

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing how people work — and the public health and health promotion sector is no exception. A new national survey is now seeking to understand how AI tools are currently being used across the Australian public health and health promotion workforce, and what practitioners think about them.

About the Research

The study, AI Skills for the Public Health and Health Promotion Workforce, has been approved by the Deakin Human Ethics Advisory Group (HEAG) (Reference: 2026-HE000205). Its first phase is a national online survey exploring how AI is currently being used — and understood — across the Australian public health and health promotion workforce.

Findings from the study will help build a clearer national picture of AI adoption in the sector, informing future training, resources, and support for practitioners as AI becomes an increasingly common part of everyday work.

What the Survey Covers

The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and includes questions such as:

• What is your approach to adopting new AI technology in your work?
• Which specific AI tools or platforms have you used for work-related tasks?
• Why do you primarily use AI tools in your work?
• How useful do you find AI for your professional work?

Whether respondents use AI every day, occasionally, or not at all, their perspective is valuable — the research team is seeking input from the whole workforce, not just early adopters.

Who Can Take Part

Public health and health promotion professionals across Australia are invited to take part. Members of professional organisations should keep an eye out for the survey link shared through their organisation’s newsletter, email list, LinkedIn, or other social media channels.

Professional bodies interested in supporting recruitment by distributing the approved study invitation through their own communication channels are encouraged to get involved — each share helps build a more complete national picture.
