Be Connected is an Australian Government initiative aimed at increasing the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians in using digital technology.

Be Connected adopts a community-centred approach to assist individuals aged 50 years and over, who have little or no experience with digital technology. 

Whether you want to pick up new skills or dive into a new topic, you can access the Be Connected program’s free learning resources online or join the ECCNSW’s free computer classes in languages.

Topics include ‘The absolute basics’ (ie. Introduction to computer, smartphone, internet), ‘Internet banking’, ‘Connecting to others’, ‘Social Media apps’ and many others.

ECCNSW has trained digital mentors who have been providing digital lessons in languages.

Be Connected program has been providing an effective learning style which will increase social connectedness and digital literacy skills contributing to greater independence.

The CALD seniors can communicate more comfortably and confidently with their families and friends online, reducing social isolation and loneliness.

The program has been assisting the seniors who speak ethnic languages and who are socially isolated or at risk of social isolation connect due to language barriers and lack to digital skills and knowledge. The program has helped the seniors to remain updated, informed and in touch with loved ones and the community.
