In September, the Inner West Sector Support Development Officer, in collaboration with the Inner West Region Dementia Friendly Community Alliance, hosted a vibrant and informative event for Dementia Action Week, focused on Brain Health. The event saw an impressive turnout, with 90 residents from across the Inner West Region participating.
The day was filled with engaging activities and valuable resources aimed at promoting brain health and enhancing community awareness of dementia-related issues. A highlight of the event was the launch of the Inner West Region Dementia Pathways Flyer, which is now available in English and seven other languages, ensuring accessibility for diverse community members.
Attendees benefited from an insightful presentation by the Sydney Brain and Mind Centre, where experts shared essential information on brain health and practical tips for maintaining mental well-being. Additionally, participants enjoyed a lively session led by the Dance Health Alliance, featuring music and movement activities that encouraged both physical and cognitive engagement.
The event also showcased various stalls from local organizations, including councils, the Burwood Police Area Command, Sydney Local Health District, Dementia Australia, and local aged care services. These booths provided attendees with information about the support and resources available in the community, fostering connections and promoting collaboration.
The success of this event highlights the importance of community engagement and education in supporting individuals living with dementia and their families.
