Colonoscopy referral education for primary care

The Cancer Institute NSW and Daffodil Centre are working in partnership to provide colonoscopy referral education for primary care professionals.

In June, the Daffodil Centre and the Institute are presenting a Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine accredited webinar to equip primary care practitioners with up-to-date knowledge and access to a practical co-designed tool, called Refer4Scope.

Key details:

  • 2024 data showed that many GPs in NSW are not aware of all the options for referral when a patient presents with colorectal cancer screening outcomes, bowel-related symptoms or family history of colorectal cancer.
  • The webinar, tailored towards primary care practitioners in NSW, will address key learning areas including:
    • Performing guideline appropriate assessment and management of colorectal cancer risk.
    • Performing guideline appropriate assessment and triage for colonoscopy.
    • Generating guideline appropriate referral for colonoscopy services, including Direct Access Colonoscopy.
  • Presented by A/Prof Eleonora Feletto, Gastrointestinal Cancers Policy and Evaluation Stream Lead at Daffodil Centre, Dr Cameron Bell AM, Director of Endoscopy and Senior Staff Specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital and Christopher Horn, Head of the NSW Bowel Screening Program at Cancer Institute NSW.
  • Participants will also be the first to access Refer4Scope โ€“ a co-designed, online decision tool supporting GPs to assess their patientsโ€™ appropriate referral pathway to colonoscopy in a few clicks.
  • Date: Thursday 12 June 2025ย
