Information to CALD communities celebrating Diwali on the 4th of November 2021.
Here are some tips communities can follow to keep their Diwali celebrations COVID safe. This information has been translated into Hindi and Tamil.
- Be fully vaccinated to protect your family, friends and community.
- Celebrate outside where possible.
- If you are fully vaccinated, up to 50 people can gather and celebrate outside in a public space.
- If you are not fully vaccinated, you can gather with your household or one other person outside (you cannot visit their place of residence).
- If you are going to a restaurant or café, ask to sit at an outdoor table. Remember to check in on arrival and show your proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
- If you’re celebrating Diwali at home, remember there are limits to who and how many can visit.
- Ask your visitors who are aged 16 years or over if they are fully vaccinated before inviting them. Only fully vaccinated people can visit others and have visitors.
- Up to 20 fully vaccinated visitors allowed in your home at any one time (visitor limits don’t apply for children under the age of 12).
- Host your visitors in the outdoor section or garden of your home; if indoors, open all windows to increase air ventilation.
- When visiting family and friends this Diwali, please remember to wash your hands or use hand sanitiser on arrival, and before preparing or serving food.
- Maintain a safe distance of 1.5 metres apart where possible.
- Wear a mask where required and when physical distancing is not possible.
- Although it’s hard, it is best to avoid hugging or kissing people you do not live with.
- If you’re unwell and have any symptoms, please stay home, get tested immediately and celebrate Diwali virtually.
