Australia Chinese Ex-Services Monument

On 23 March 2025, Joshua Moses and Suellyn Lin, members of the ECCNSW Board of Directors, attended the 22nd anniversary of the unveiling of the Australian Chinese Ex-Services Monument in Sydney Chinatown. This important event was held to honour the commitment and contributions of Chinese Australians who have served in the Australian military forces, from the Boer War to the present day.

The ceremony, which took place at No. 1 Dixon Street, Haymarket, was a deeply moving remembrance service. Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, served as the Guest of Honour for the occasion. The monument itself, unveiled on 14 March 2003 by the then Deputy Premier Dr. Andrew Refshauge, stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of Australian World War II veterans of Chinese descent, the Australian Chinese community, and both the Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments.

As part of the ceremony, Joshua Moses and Suellyn Lin laid an ECCNSW wreath, paying their respects to the brave individuals who have contributed to Australia’s military history. This commemoration also marked the beginning of an initiative to rejuvenate the Australian Chinese Ex-Services Association (ACEA) and provide a platform for new and current Australian Defence Force members to learn from the experiences of previous generations.

The event was a reminder of the ongoing dedication to remembering and honouring the sacrifices made by Chinese Australians in service to their country.
