Community Voices Needed in the Next Step of Domestic Family Violence Framework
CSNSW Moves to Next Stage of DFV Framework: Lived Experience Consultations Begin
Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) is continuing work on its new Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Framework and is now entering the next important phase: hearing directly from people with lived experience.
In 2024, CSNSW worked with Inside Policy to run focus groups with community organisations and service providers. This was part of Phase 1 of the project, which focused on gathering input from key stakeholders. The findings from this work are now available in a consultation report.
New Phase: Lived Experience Voices
The project is now focused on ensuring that the voices of people who have been directly affected by DFV โ including both victim-survivors and people who have been in contact with Corrective Services โ are included in shaping the final framework.
Inside Policy has received ethics approval from both the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the Corrective Services NSW Ethics Committee (CSEC) to carry out this sensitive research.
Who Will Be Involved?
Between April and May 2025, Inside Policy will be conducting interviews and online focus groups with:
- People currently completing CSNSW orders related to DFV
- Victim-survivors of DFV
- Partners, former partners, family or kin of people involved in DFV-related CSNSW orders
The team is also seeking to include participants from a diverse range of backgrounds, including:
- Aboriginal people
- People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
- People who identify as LGBTQAI+
- People living with disability
Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) have also been engaged to support culturally safe consultations in Aboriginal communities.
Participant Support
Participants will be asked to join a 45โ60 minute interview or group session. They will receive:
- A $50 grocery gift card for their time
- Clear information about the project
- A chance to give informed consent before taking part
How Community Organisations Can Help
CSNSW is asking organisations across NSW to help connect Inside Policy with individuals who may want to participate. If your organisation is able to assist, please respond by COB 7 April 2025.
Inside Policy will be accepting expressions of interest until 6 May 2025. After your response, CSNSW will provide more information and introduce you to the Inside Policy team.
