ECCNSW and ICAC Collaborate on CALD Community Engagement Strategy
ECCNSW Bilingual Educators (BEs), in collaboration with ICAC, recently met at our Waterloo office to further develop the 2026-2028 ICAC Strategy on Communications and Engagement with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities.
The meeting was led by David Burfoot, ICAC Senior Corruption Prevention Officer and Caroline Shepherd, Senior Communications and Engagement Officer from ICAC. ICAC was interested in hearing the Bilingual Educators’ feedback about the draft strategy and to learn from their expertise. BEs also provided final feedback on the language and design of the brochure on corruption.
The specific focus of the meeting was on whether the draft strategy reflected the best approach for the ICAC to build trust with the CALD communities, and whether it would help in reducing corruption. Discussions also focused on risks and challenges ICAC may have, how they could reduce these and how such a strategy could be taken forward in the Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean and Filipino communities.
The BEs provided the ICAC with valuable insights into their respective communities around working with community leaders, influencers and members to build a foundation of trust and connection.
Moving forward, ECCNSW will play an important role in supporting the ICAC Communications and Engagement with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities strategy through a practical, community based approach.
