ECCNSW and ICAC Launch Community Awareness Project to Empower CALD Communities
The Ethnic Communitiesโ Council of NSW (ECCNSW), in partnership with the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), is proud to be part of a Community Awareness Project aimed at informing culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities about corruption and how to report it.
The project focuses on explaining what constitutes corrupt conduct, outlining the role of ICAC, and providing accessible pathways for reporting concerns. By increasing understanding, the initiative seeks to build trust and transparency within government and community services.
In June 2025, ICAC officers Margaret Sutherland and David Burfoot visited ECCNSWโs Waterloo office to brief bilingual educators on the upcoming Information Sessions scheduled for July and August.
The briefing session was also an opportunity for ECCNSW educators to provide valuable feedback on the session materials and a draft informational pamphlet. The pamphlet is being developed in six key languages โ Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Arabic, Cantonese, and Vietnamese โ to meet the needs of diverse communities.
Bilingual educators will meet with their language communities to gain further feedback which will help ICAC to make it more culturally inclusive and sensitive.
This collaborative effort underscores the importance of engaging communities directly in ICAC’s work against corruption through education, accessibility, and inclusive communication.
