ECCNSW Congratulates Member Organisation CASS on Achieving Major Milestones
On December 5th, 2024, ECCNSW celebrated a significant milestone alongside its member organisation, CASS (Chinese Australian Services Society), at a special luncheon held at the ORION Centre in Campsie. The event marked the 30th anniversary of CASSโs settlement services, the 25th anniversary of its home ageing services, and the 15th anniversary of its weekly articles published under the pen name โKending.โ
ECCNSW was represented at the event by staff member Ms. Marina Antonas, who joined other community leaders and stakeholders to acknowledge these remarkable achievements. CASS, a key community service provider, has made a lasting impact through its diverse range of services, empowering individuals and families within the Chinese Australian community and beyond.
Celebrating 30 Years of Settlement Services
CASS has been providing vital settlement support to newly arrived migrants for 30 years, helping them navigate the challenges of settling into Australian society. Over the decades, their services have evolved, offering practical assistance with housing, employment, education, and social integration, making a profound difference in the lives of many families.
25 Years of Home Ageing Services
As part of its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older Australians, CASS marked its 25th anniversary of home ageing services. Through this program, CASS has supported elderly individuals in maintaining their independence, dignity, and connection to the community while receiving care in the comfort of their own homes. The program has played a critical role in addressing the needs of a growing and ageing population.
15 Years of Kendingโs Weekly Articles
In a unique and influential way, CASS has also made a mark in the world of media with its weekly articles penned under the pen name “Kending” for the past 15 years. These articles, which cover a range of topics from community issues to cultural reflections, have provided a voice for the Chinese Australian community, fostering understanding and engagement with wider Australian society.
Recognition from the Hon. Tony Burke MP
The event was further distinguished by the presence of The Hon Tony Burke MP, Minister for Home Affairs, who delivered a heartfelt congratulatory address to CASS for its exemplary contributions. Minister Burke commended the organisationโs dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and its unwavering commitment to creating a more inclusive and connected Australia.
As a token of appreciation for his longstanding commitment to CASS and its mission, Mr. Ivan Wong, the Vice Chair of CASS, was presented with an award by Minister Burke. Mr. Wong’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in driving the organisationโs success and fostering a strong, compassionate community spirit.
