The Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW congratulates Anthony Albanese on his election as Australia’s 31st Prime Minister. Mr Albanese is the first person with a non-Anglo-Celtic surname to be elected to the office of Prime Minister and we congratulate him and the Australian Labour party on a significant victory.

ECCNSW welcomes the election of the highest proportion of people from a non-English speaking background and from an indigenous background into the Parliament of Australia. This will be the most diverse parliament in Australia’s history and will include the highest proportion of women, particularly those from a non-English speaking background elected.

The Ethnic Communities’ Council NSW also acknowledges and congratulates former Deputy Chair of our organisation Ms Dai Le for her election into the seat of Fowler.

Mr Peter Doukas OAM who was recently re-elected Chair of ECCNSW,  welcomes the election of so many multicultural candidates at the 2022 Federal election. The Ethnic Communities’ Council as the largest multicultural peak body in NSW and one of the oldest such Councils in the country, considers that such a significant event in Australian history should be particularly acknowledged.

We particularly acknowledge the election of Mr Anthony Albanese as Prime Minister and would like to openly invite him to attend the Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW office at Waterloo to receive a formal acknowledgement from our Members” ECCNSW Chair, Mr Doukas said.

We look forward to working with the federal government in the same manner that we have worked with all political parties towards our stated goal of a more open and multicultural Australia.
