School Student Broadband Initiative Extended Until 30 June 2028
The ย Australian Government has announced that the duration of the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) will be extended until Friday 30 June 2028 for all new and existing qualifying families and carers who activate the SSBI service with a participating internet provider before the 30,000 cap of SSBI services connected is reached.
This news was announced yesterday by the Hon Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland MP –ย https://minister.infrastructure.gov.au/rowland/media-release/albanese-government-delivering-free-broadband-30000-unconnected-australian-families
What this meansย
- SSBI remains available for qualifying families and carers until the provision of 30,000 SSBI service connections has been achieved.ย ย
- The SSBI service provides free nbn home internet via a participating internet provider until 30 June 2028.ย
- Once the program reaches the SSBI cap of 30,000 SSBI service connections no further nominations will be accepted, and any unredeemed vouchers will become invalid.ย ย
To qualifyย
If there is a school age student at the home and there is no current nbn network connection, that home may qualify for free nbn home internet until 30 June 2028.ย
ย To check if a household qualifies and to apply, follow the four steps below:ย ย
- Contact the National Referral Centre on 1800 954 610 Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm (AEDT) or visitย anglicarevic.org.au/student-internetย ย
- Theyโll ask the applicant some questions to see if they qualify for the SSBI service.ย ย
- If the applicant qualifies, they will get a voucher.ย ย
- They can use the voucher to connect through their chosen participating internet provider. They will need to use their voucher before the SSBI cap of 30,000 SSBI service connections is taken. *ย
* They will not be able to take up the SSBI services once the SSBI cap of 30,000 SSBI service connections is met. Once the SSBI cap of 30,000 is reached no further nominations will be accepted by participating internet providers. Being issued a voucher does not reserve the family or carerโs place in the program and they must activate the voucher with their chosen participating internet provider otherwise it becomes invalid.ย
