In collaboration with the Cancer Institute NSW, ECCNSW bilingual educators implemented the “Prevention, Take the Offer” program. This initiative targeted Assyrian, Vietnamese, and Urdu-speaking individuals in the Sydney metropolitan areas, as well as multicultural communities in the Illawarra, to enhance understanding of the health benefits associated with free cancer screening.

The program focused on age groups from 50 to 74 for bowel and breast screening, and 25 to 74 for cervical screening. Its primary objective was to identify barriers preventing these communities from accessing these services, thereby increasing participation among CALD communities. The project successfully engaged 239 participants, all of whom committed to informing five family members or friends about these screening programs.

In addition to hosting information sessions, the project partnered with SBS Radio to raise awareness through Arabic, Vietnamese, and Urdu programs. This strategic initiative aimed to significantly boost participation in cancer screening programs among culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
