ECCNSW is offering paid positions to bilingual individuals in NSW and ACT to create recorded interviews and radio broadcasts of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and Indigenous backgrounds living with a disability.

Training for recorded interviews (podcasts) will be provided.

An inclusive attitude and respectful language relating to people with disabilities, experience with CALD or Indigenous communities AND experience in radio broadcasting, on a digital, internet or traditional radio station is essential.

Direct lived experience or some experience of disability is desirable.

About the Role

The Speak My Language (SML) program is a national initiative led by the Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW in partnership with ethnic and multicultural councils across Australia.  SML focuses on CALD and Indigenous Australians with disabilities, and their supporters, sharing real stories and experiences, via recorded interviews, radio and online.

ECCNSW is looking to employ people with lived experience of disability and are well connected in CALD and Indigenous communities to create recorded interviews and radio broadcasts by conducting and recording interviews using the power of storytelling and guest speakers to deliver information and practical tips about living well with a disability at home, in the community and at work or school, preferably in a language other than English. 

Speak My Language Broadcast Travellers are employed on a casual basis for a maximum 84 hours over 17 weeks, with the first four weeks devoted to training.

Successful candidates must demonstrate:

  • Respectful language and an understanding of influences and sensitivities in relation to people with disabilities
  • Experience in radio broadcasting
  • Bilingual communication skills
  • Understand how Privacy, Duty of Care and Conflict of Interest relates to the role
  • Good file management skills and an ability to use password protected on-line forms
